Disinflationary pulse gathering momentum

The disinflationary process that has been underway for some time overseas is working its way through the Australian economy as inflation continued to slow in the June quarter.

Inflation slowed to 6%, down from a peak of almost 8% late last year.

Goods inflation continues to soften as supply-chain disruption ease and commodity prices pull back from their peaks.

Services inflation was a bit more mixed. The annual pace accelerated to its fastest since 2001. But encouragingly, the quarterly pace slowed and was not far above the average over the 10 years leading up to the pandemic.
