RBA signals more hikes as inflation fight not yet over

The Reserve Bank kicked off 2023 with another 25-basis-point hike this week, lifting the cash rate to 3.35%.
 
In addition, the RBA provided hawkish guidance all but confirming that more hikes are on the horizon. Importantly, the statement’s key final paragraph suggested that the RBA thinks that two more hikes will be required, if not more.
 
Supply-chain disruptions have been easing for some time and commodity prices have pulled back from elevated levels. But that doesn’t mean the inflation fight is over, far from it.
