Episode 134 | Deem-ystify grandfathered ABPs
On 20 August 2025, the Minister for Social Services announced that from 20 September 2025 deeming rates will increase to 0.75% and 2.75% respectively. This session will involve a deep dive into grandfathered account-based pensions for social security purposes. This will include a refresher on what they and when they may be relevant as not all pensions started before 2015 will have this status. Grandfathered account-based pensions have different income testing treatment compared to those that are non-grandfathered. We will also investigate the different advice considerations when faced with one and assess the immediate and longer term merits for clients to continue to hold one.
