Employee benefits

Our commitment to our employees.

When you join Westpac Group, you’ll soon discover that our work environment and benefits are all designed with your wellbeing in mind. With the continued blurring of lines between work and personal life, we understand the need to support our people as ‘whole-beings’.

This is why our employee benefits focus on five key pillars: Family & Community, Finances, Health, Values and Work.

Flexible working

Whatever your role at Westpac Group you’ll be supported to request/negotiate flexible working arrangements such as flexible hours, working remotely, part time work, or job share.

Leave to support lifestyle and wellbeing

Each year you’ll have the option to take up to 12 weeks’ paid leave, through our purchased leave program – especially handy for travel or managing school holidays.

You may be eligible for a career break of between 3 to 12 months. You can use this time for professional development, for personal interests or responsibilities, or simply to refresh and re-energise.

As a Westpac Group employee, you’ll receive two paid culture, lifestyle and wellbeing leave days per year. You may also qualify for other leave benefits such as defence reservist leave or volunteering leave. If you’re transitioning to retirement, you’ll also have an additional three days paid leave to explore retirement related activities.

Paid parental leave

As a primary carer you’ll have the choice of 16 weeks’ parental leave at full pay or 32 weeks’ leave at half pay. As a support carer you can take 4 weeks’ paid leave. All leave is flexible and can be taken up to your child’s 2nd birthday. We also offer up to 12 months’ unpaid grandparental leave.

Fertility leave

For employees wishing to start or expand their family, they can access up to one week of paid leave each year to undergo fertility treatment, to attend appointments, and related medical support.

Superannuation on parental leave

To further support your financial future, we also make superannuation contributions on unpaid parental leave for up to 24 months.

Gender affirmation Leave

We offer up to 6 weeks’ paid leave and 1 year of unpaid leave for our people who are affirming their gender.

Sorry Business Leave

If you identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island you can take 3 days paid Sorry Business leave to attend Sorry Business cultural practices. This is in addition to our standard 3 days paid compassionate leave.

Domestic & Family Violence Support

We offer as much special paid leave as needed to any of our people experiencing domestic and family violence. If you’re affected by this, you’ll also have access to advice, counselling, financial support, and flexible work arrangements. We also offer 10 days paid leave if you are supporting a family member who is experiencing domestic and family violence.

Leading offerings to enhance your wellbeing

You’ll have access to a range of special Westpac Group services including:

  • Free nutrition advice
  • Free employee counselling and coaching service for you and your family
  • Access to wellbeing resources, training and development
  • End of trip facilities (selected locations).

Valuable savings on banking products and services

You and your family will receive discounts on a wide range of Westpac Group’s banking and wealth products and services, including buying or insuring a home or car or saving for the future. You’ll still be able to take advantage of this even after you move on from the company. Since 2017, our Contractor employees have also been able to take advantage of these benefits.

Third Party Partner savings

You’ll receive great offers and discounts on a range of well-known brands through our third party Employee Benefits Program.  The myDiscounts program is available 24/7 via a mobile-friendly portal. With saving on everything from movie tickets to cars it’s no wonder we had over 1.3 million logins in the past 12 months.

Jawun Professional Secondments with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

As a Westpac Group employee based in Australia, you could have the unique opportunity to participate in a life changing Jawun Professional Secondment with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander organisations.

Jawun is a not for profit organisation co-founded by Westpac in 2001. Jawun partners with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations in 12 regions across Australia, providing them with skilled secondees from Jawun’s 28 corporate and government partners – including Westpac Group. As a secondee you’ll share your professional skills to help these organisations refine and deliver their initiatives and progress their reform agendas.

Since 2001, over 950 Westpac Group employees have taken part in Jawun secondments and success is shared both ways. The Indigenous organisations benefit from your professional skills, while you’ll benefit from an immersive experience that builds your leadership and understanding of Indigenous cultures and ways of doing business.

Matching Gifts: matching employees' charitable donations

Matching Gifts is one of our best-loved community programs. As long as the registered charity is Australian based and has a Deductible Gift Recipient status (DGRs) then we’ll match every dollar you and our other Westpac Group employees donate. We believe this is one of the most democratic ways of allocating our philanthropic contributions.

Our Matching Gifts program was formed in December 1998 and was the first of its kind among Australian banks. It’s is a source of pride for our people and helps to build stronger communities by supporting charities right across Australia which deliver important social services to so many people.

Volunteering

We actively encourage and support you – with additional leave if necessary - to volunteer your time and skills to support the local community organisations and causes you are most passionate about.

Employee Action Groups

You’ll have the opportunity to join one of our many Employee Action Groups. These employee-led networks bring passionate individuals together to advocate and promote diverse communities both within and outside of our group. Our EAGs include:

  • Women of Westpac
  • Cultural Diversity in Leadership
  • Brothers & Sisters
  • The Youth Network
  • 50PLUS
  • Veterans
  • Domestic & Family Violence
  • Westpac Pride
  • ABLE
  • Skilled Volunteer Network

Sustainability

Our 2021-2023 Sustainability Strategy (PDF 421KB) sets out how we can best serve our customers, communities and nation, and contribute to solving global challenges.
