Investing in the next generation

A critical skills shortage in our industry makes attracting and retaining talent one of the biggest challenges facing advisers.*

In response, we’re pleased to introduce the Striver Career Pathways Program, brought to you by BT, an industry-first initiative designed to welcome and nurture a new generation of professionals ready to meet this challenge.

This program aims to nurture a new generation of financial advice professionals equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in our industry. By partnering with Striver, we can build a thriving future for financial advice through:

  • Accessible career pathways: A clear and supported career pathway into the financial advice profession, reducing the financial barriers of professional education for participants and creating a more inclusive future for the industry.
  • Diverse opportunities: Catering to career changers, support staff looking to upskill and graduates with potential, helping them grow into roles such as client service managers, paraplanners and eventually, financial advisers.
  • Bridging the skills gap: Creating a pool of quality, qualified candidates to meet the growing need for financial advice and connecting them with practices seeking new employees.

Selected BT employees will be among the first participants, and you’ll have the opportunity to connect with and hire experienced candidates who are pursuing a career in financial advice. In conjunction with Striver, our mission is to introduce 5,000 new advisers to the profession over the next decade, helping 750,000 Australians receive the advice they need and want.

Our program uniquely combines recognised qualifications with real-world experience. Participants benefit from:

  • Industry qualifications: access to industry-recognised qualifications
  • Practical training: additional training in key business areas including presentation, communication and leadership skills
  • Coaching & mentoring: guidance from experienced professionals
  • Industry experience: exposure to the financial advice industry through a range of professional events
  • Career advancement: supported career transition into roles such as client services manager, paraplanner or financial adviser.

Connecting candidates with employers

At the end of the program, participants are invited to showcase their skills and qualifications by choosing to publish their profiles on Striver’s careers portal, connecting them directly with potential employers. Meanwhile, financial advice practices gain early access to highly qualified candidates ready to take the next step in their career.

We have a shortage of financial advisers in Australia. Whilst we are seeing new entrants choosing careers in financial advice, they do not make up the number of experienced advisers who have left the industry.

Our clients - advisers - trust us to help them realise new opportunities and support them with their practice development. We do this through our training and education program, BT Academy, and through CPD point accredited technical and practical webinars, podcasts and in-person events.

BT Academy provides access to the latest ideas, trends and reports to help you realise new opportunities and assist with supporting your practice.
