Latest: Markets did not do well overnight. The UK FTSE finished down 2.5%, and the US Dow by a similar amount. The S&P was down 2.9%, it is now back below where is was on 31 December 2008. In the US the unemployment rate has gone up to 9.5%. There will be no market report on Monday, as the US market is closed on Friday 3 July 2009.

Government announces continuation of 50% pension minimums in May budget

All BT & Westpac account-based pensions will have their minimum pension level reduced by 50% from 1 July 2009 for the 2009/10 financial year. Customers already receiving a specified amount higher than the minimum level will not be impacted. Customers on the minimum level will have the opportunity to increase their income level if they wish.
