Successful retirement

Statistics show that Australians who are approaching retirement are healthier, wealthier, and face a brighter future than ever before. You're likely to live longer, and have a higher standard of living than your parents did. That's a lot to look forward to!

It's boom time

The baby boomer generation, born between 1946 and 1965, will be Australia's largest ever group of retirees. This generation is healthier, more active and better educated than before. Australia also has the second highest life expectancy among OECD countries, meaning Australians could not only be living longer than ever before, we could be healthier and happier!

Enjoy your wealth

Baby boomers are shaping up as one of our wealthiest retiring generations. The average wealth of older Australians has almost doubled between 1986 and 1997, due to a high rate of home ownership, strong growth in share prices and the value of superannuation. With around 90% of workers now in compulsory superannuation schemes, many Australians are facing a more secure retirement than ever before. But the big question is - how much is enough?

How much will you need?

Keep working if you want to

Times are changing. This well-educated, smart, healthy and wealthy generation of baby-boomers has a greater ability to work beyond 60 or 65 than ever before. Employers who currently favour younger employees may be forced to change their attitudes as the workforce diminishes. It's time to seriously challenge the 'grey ceiling'. Many baby-boomers may feel they still have a contribution to make to the workforce, or they may prefer to ease out of the workforce gradually.

Can you keep working?
