Investment style

What investments should you choose? Consider your investment style - are you aggressive, moderate or conservative? This will depend on the level of risk you're prepared to take. Different asset classes pose different risk levels - generally, higher returns require higher risk. Remember that time reduces risk.

It's the risk/return trade-off
  • Aggressive - you're willing to take more risk in the hope of high returns. You will invest most of your money in shares or property.
  • Moderate - you're willing to take some risk to achieve high returns, while keeping a certain amount in more conservative investments, for example, a mix of shares, property, cash and bonds.
  • Conservative - you're not willing to take much risk, but are prepared to trade off the high returns for guaranteed income from cash or bonds.
