The consequences of super investors not supplying a TFN

Due to Government legislation changes from 1 July 2007, super investors will need to provide a valid Tax File Number (TFN) to the trustee of their super fund to avoid some or all contributions being rejected and/or paying additional tax on other contributions.

Some or all contributions may not be accepted: The legislation means that without a valid TFN, superannuation funds are unable to accept non-concessional contributions from you. (‘Non-concessional contributions’ generally refers to after-tax contributions made by you or on your behalf, other than employer contributions). In addition, some super funds will not accept any type of contribution without a valid TFN. This may mean even your employer's contributions may not be accepted. Rollovers from other taxed super funds will generally be accepted without a valid TFN. Investors are encouraged to refer to their product-specific Notice for full details.
